Bharti Airtel and Vodafone two leading mobile operators in the country will start rolling out Aadhaar based electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) solution at their stores to help customers activate new SIMs instantly. This new development has taken place following the notification by the Department of Telecom, Government of India. Also, users will be able to get SIM card immediately without the need for any documents. Instead, all the verification will be based online on the Aadhaar card details.

Aadhaar based e-KYC solution is a paperless method approved by the Indian Government to not only enhance customer experience but also improve the process of verification. While Airtel has already started the service at stores in Delhi-NCR, Vodafone will launch the facility across India from August 24.

According to TRAI report on May 2016, Airtel has a base of 25.4 crore subscribers while Vodafone has 19.8 crore users.

What are the steps to get your SIM activated

So according to this, for all users of Vodafone and Airtel, the process of having a SIM has become quite comfortable. First, at the time of purchasing a SIM card you need to submit your biometrics which will be matched with UIDAI database. If every detail is correct, then the connection will be easily activated on the name of the customers.

The process is entirely secure as the retailer/representative at the point of sale will also be registered under Aadhaar.

Currently, Airtel’s e-KYC solution is live in the company-operated stores across Delhi NCR. Over the next few days, it will be available at company-operated stores across the country. Also in the coming time, the eKYC facility will be accessible to those stores which are not directly operated by the company.

On the other hand, on August 24, Vodafone will roll out the paperless validation and activation in 10,000 plus stores across the country. To see how successful it will be among the customers the telecom company partnered with Department of Telecom (DoT) to pilot the Aadhaar based e-KYC solution.

Created for convenience of Customers

Customers opting for the e-KYC solution will just have to have their Aadhaar Card number which along with their fingerprints will be good enough to get a new SIM. It is applicable for both new prepaid and postpaid connections.

This procedure is pretty simple as one can walk into a store and walk out with an activated SIM card. Not only does it reduce the process of submitting the documents but also customers will not have to go through the restless waiting days.
