As scheduled, Tecno Mobiles has now announced the launch of a new mid-range smartphone dubbed as Tecno Phantom 9, in India. Priced at under INR 15,000, the phone offers an in-display fingerprint scanner, an AMOLED display, and triple rear cameras as its main highlights.

As for the specs, the Tecno Phantom 9 comes with a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels. The panel further flaunts a 19:9 aspect ratio, thanks to the waterdrop notch, and bears a maximum brightness of 600 nits.
Under the hood, the phone gets powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P35 processor clocked at 2.3GHz, coupled with IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU. Interestingly, the phone offers a whopping 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage which can be expanded further up to 256GB via microSD card slot.
For photography, the device gets a triple rear camera setup at the rear. The module comprises of a 16-megapixel primary shooter with f/1.85 aperture, accompanied by an 8-megapixel wide-angle unit with a 120-degree field-of-view. There’s also a 2-megapixel sensor with f/2.8 aperture for depth sensing and a quad-LED flash.
Coming to the selfies, the Tecno Phantom 9 boasts of a 32-megapixel front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture, housed in the waterdrop notch. The phone also gets dual LED flashlights upfront for better low-light selfies. Additionally, the camera app incorporates certain AI features including HDR, Beauty, Portrait, AR emojis and more.
On the software front, the phone runs Android 9.0 Pie with the company’s custom HiOS 5.0 on top. All of this is backed by a 3,500mAh battery which supports standard 10W charging. As mentioned, the handset gets an in-display fingerprint scanner and is loaded with face unlock feature as well.
Lastly, the connectivity options onboard include dual 4G VoLTE, dual-band WiFi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz + 5GHz), Bluetooth v5.0, GPS + GLONASS, 3.5mm audio jack and a micro USB port.
Price & Availability
The Tecno Phantom 9 price in India has been set at Rs. 14,999 for the lone model with 6GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage. The phone will be available for purchase from Flipkart starting from July 17.
Alongside the phone, Tecno is also promising a 100-day replacement warranty and one-time free screen replacement. For those unaware, the brand is held by Transsion Holdings which also sells Infinix, iTel and Spice smartphones in the country.
