Nextbit has released the much-awaited Robin smartphone in India at Rs. 19,999 in both Mint and Midnight color variants. Touted to be equipped with cloud-centric features, the Nextbit Robin will exclusively be available on Flipkart from May 31.

The Nextbit Robin arrives in India in the midst of rising competition among smartphones especially from LeEco, who entered the country dubbed to disrupt the technology arena.

Commenting on the launch, Mike Chan, CTO, Nextbit revealed that the company wanted to build a smartphone which will stand out from other competing devices. Hence, the product team integrated a rectangular design and green color, which will make a new impression on customers.

“Since our chief engineer was part of the HTC global team, he was very adamant about the design. Hence, the team took extreme care during the manufacturing process.”

Chan further disclosed that since he had worked at Google, he knows about the importance of the software. That’s why the company has bundled Android Marshmallow 6.0.1.

On the specifications front, the Nextbit Robin ships with a 5.2-inch FHD IPS LCD Gorilla Glass 4, Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage. Even though the internal storage cannot be expanded using microSD card, the smartphone ships with free 100GB of cloud storage.

Powered by a 2680mAh battery with support for fast charging technology, the Nextbit Robin features integrated dual front-facing speakers with dual amplifiers coupled with Fingerprint sensor and NFC. While Robin comes with a 13MP primary camera with phase detection autofocus and dual-tone flash, the front-facing shooter is accompanied by a 5MP sensor.

Responding to media, Shankar Parasaram, Country Manager, Nextbit India disclosed that the smart cloud storage paired with fingerprint unlocking on the side panel will surely make a great impression among users in India. Although the software is custom Android, the company has integrated a wide range of customization options such as pinned apps and small design changes.

To our surprise, the speakers are placed on the front-side in rounded grills, which looks different from the conventional speakers found in other smartphones. Moreover, the LED flash is featured on the rear side, which looks different than other competing devices. The device also comes with an integrated power button and fingerprint sensor on the side panel.

Nextbit Robin can be pre-ordered from Flipkart but will ship only after May 31. As part of the Big Shopping Days festival, Flipkart is also providing flat Rs. 100 discount and extra 10% cashback with Citi credit and debit cards.
