During the release of their flagship smartphone M8 by HTC, the smartphone giant company had promised to release the Android 5.0 (Lollipop) update within 90 days of the source code being released. The update would also be available for HTC One as well. According to the company, the source code was in the hands of the company by November 4th, 2014, which meant that the company would have released the updates by 2nd February 2015.
However, from a leak provided by a Vietnamese blog, the smartphone manufacturer should be providing Android Lollipop updates for most of its devices by April 2015. According to the chart, flagship devices such as HTC One M8 EYE, One E8, Desire EYE, and Butterfly 2 will receive the update by February. Next comes One M8 EYE (China), One E8 (China), One M8 Mini, One Max, M7 Dual SIM, Desire 816 and Desire 820u, all of which would be receiving updates during the month of March.
Android L would be available for One Mini, One M8 Mini (UL), Desire 510, Desire 610 and Desire 820s from April onwards. While the legitimacy of the news cannot be confirmed, it does provide a rough picture as to when the company would provide the updates and matches well with the company’s disclosure as well.
Although nothing can be said for the advanced updates of Lollipop (Android 5.1), it is rumored that these updates would be launched sometime during February of this year. Nothing can be stated with confidence on how these two updates would be released.
Originally, the HTC One M8 was supposed to receive its Android L update by 3rd January 2015 but the deadline has been postponed to “90 days of source code availability”.
The Android L update would enable users to have a quick multi-tasking view, lock screen notifications and a simpler user interface. The most renowned feature of this OS would be that it consumes far less battery for running.
