The Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium with dual-rear cameras was officially unveiled today by the company. Notably, the handset is the Japanese giant’s first smartphone featuring a dual-lens primary camera setup. Another key attribute of the handset is its high-resolution 4K HDR screen.
In terms of design, the Xperia XZ2 Premium looks almost identical to its predecessor. It still retains the rectangular, boxy form factor that we’ve with Sony’s past flagship launches. That said, innards have been significantly upgraded. The Xperia XZ2 Premium gets powered by the latest Snapdragon 845 processor bundled with 6GB of RAM. Besides, its sports a 5.8-inch TRILUMINOS 4K display which boasts a resolution of 2160×3840 pixels. The screen also gets a protective layer of 2.5D Gorilla Glass 5.
However, the biggest talking point of the handset is the camera which can capture videos and photos in extreme low-light conditions. As already mentioned, it features a dual-lens primary camera. The main camera gets a 19MP 1/2.3″ Exmor RS sensor with f/1.8 lens. The secondary lens is a 12MP 1/2.3″ monochrome unit to enhance low light performance. These dual cameras on the back can capture photos with ISO 51,200 and ISO 12800 for videos. Also, it supports slo-motion video recording at 940 fps along with 4K HDR video recording. For selfies, the XZ2 Premium features a 13MP front-facing shooter with f.2.0 low-light sensor.
Elsewhere, the handset comes with a 3500mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0. It also offers power management features such as Smart Stamina and different STAMINA modes to maximize battery life. It also supports Qi wireless charging. As far as OS goes, the Xperia XZ2 Premium runs Android Oreo out-of-the-box.
At launch, the handset will be offered in a choice of Chrome Black and Chrome Silver colour variants. That said, Sony is yet to officially announce the pricing and availability of the device. The company though did mention that the XZ2 Premium will be launching this quarter.
