InFocus has launched Aadhaar-Enabled Iris smartphone with all  the required approvals from the Standardization Testing & Quality Certification under Government of India. With the receipt of the certification, InFocus will be able to make use of biometric authentication linked under the Aadhaar project from within the smartphone.

Upon testing by STQC, it was found that InFocus smartphone has emerged as the most accurate and reliable biometric phone with zero error as false reject rate. The handset provides an ability to capture the Iris image under a wide range of environments, which including direct sunlight.

In addition to the exclusive iris image quality assessment, InFocus Smartphone ships with an on-board K7 generation algorithm. This technology provides excellent quality images. Moreover, it will avoid false positives while maximizing true positive identification rates.

Commenting on the launch, Sachin Thapar, Country Head, InFocus India disclosed that there is a great potential in the integration of Iris recognition technology in a smartphone. The launch of Aadhaar-Enabled Iris Smartphone provides a major boost to the Digital India initiatives. This facilitates the usefulness of biometric identification across various services offered under e-governance program.

The integrated algorithm will be able to complete an image capture and K7 image generation in less than 2 seconds. Furthermore, the biometric data from the InFocus smartphone will be encrypted by a UIDAI key at the chip level. Hence, only the Aadhaar server will be able to view the information.

On the specifications front, the InFocus Iris Enabled smartphone features a 4.5-inch display, 1.5 GHz Quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB expandable internal storage loaded with Android 5.1. With the ability to expand the storage up to 64GB, the new phone provides support for 4G-VoLTE. Hence, you can use the new handset with Reliance Jio 4G.

Responding to the development, Nandan Nilekani, Former Chairman of UIDAI revealed that the InFocus Aadhaar- enabled iris smartphone is a great example of the innovation possible on the Aadhaar platform.

You will be able to use the new InFocus smartphone with banking, E-PDS, MNREGA payments, passport, taxation, healthcare, and education. It will also help various government companies including telecom to streamline the process of an individual’s authentication and eKYC. This is irrespective of language and literacy barriers.
