Redmi Go to be Xiaomi’s first Android Go phone, revealed in images

Xiaomi Redmi Go

Xiaomi recently teased the imminent launch of the Redmi Note 7 in India. It is evidently the first smartphone under ‘Redmi by Xiaomi’ sub-brand. However, if reports are to be believed, Redmi would launch not one but three smartphones by the end of the first quarter of 2019.

The initial Redmi-lineup was said to comprise of Redmi Note 7 Pro and Redmi Go smartphones, apart from the Note 7. That being said, the smartphone has now appeared online in the freshly leaked images alongside its specifications.

Notably, the Redmi Go will be Xiaomi’s first Android Go smartphone. Up till now, the company has been focussing primarily on its MIUI skin besides the Android One line-up. Now, it seems like Xiaomi wants to bet on Google’s Android Go software. Keeping the same in mind, the phone should bring basic specifications at an affordable price.

Redmi Go Specifications (Leaked)

The Redmi Go was first revealed on a Philippino blog Revu.com.ph, followed by listings on a few e-commerce platforms. As for the specs, the Redmi Go is tipped to come with a 5.0-inch HD display having a 16:9 aspect ratio. The panel will further boast 300 nits of brightness, 1000:1 contrast ratio and 72% NTSC colour gamut coverage.

Under the hood, the device will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC, clocked at 1.4GHz and coupled with Adreno 308 GPU. Furthermore, it’ll incorporate 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, expandable up to 128GB via microSD card.

For photography, the Redmi Go is said to get a single 8MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture, 1.12um pixels and LED flash at the rear. While on the front, it’ll bear a 5MP selfie camera having f/2.0 aperture.

Not to mention, the handset will run Go-edition of the Android 8.1 Oreo. This means that the Redmi Go will come with all the Go apps like Maps Go, YouTube Go, etc. A 3,000mAh battery will back all of this with support for standard 5V/1A charging. Lastly, the connectivity options will comprise Dual SIM, 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.1 and microUSB.

Redmi Go Price in India (Leaked)

If rumours are to be believed, the Redmi Go will be priced somewhere around Rs 5,000. However, we can expect the company to bring it down to under Rs. 4,000, given that the Redmi 6A is already ruling the 5-6K territory. It will be available in Blue and Black colour options and should launch in the Philippines by next week. That being said, let’s wait for the official launch to reveal more about the device. Stay tuned for more updates.
