Xbox Wireless Headset Revamped with Dolby Atmos and Longer Battery Life, But at a Higher Price

Microsoft has quietly released a refreshed version of its popular Xbox Wireless Headset, boasting a sleek new design, improved battery life, and integrated Dolby Atmos support. But these upgrades come at a cost – a $10 increase over the original model.

The updated headset, simply called the Xbox Wireless Headset, launched on October 17th, 2024, and is available for purchase worldwide for $109.99 / £99.99 / AU$163.56. While the overall design remains similar to its predecessor, the most noticeable change is the switch to an all-black aesthetic, ditching the green accents found on the original. This subtle shift gives the headset a more understated and modern look.

Beyond the cosmetic tweaks, Microsoft has focused on enhancing the user experience with several key improvements:

• Dolby Atmos Integration: Perhaps the biggest upgrade is the inclusion of Dolby Atmos support at no additional cost. This spatial audio technology promises to deliver a more immersive gaming experience with pinpoint sound accuracy and greater depth. While the previous model technically supported Dolby Atmos, it required a separate license purchase.
• Extended Battery Life: Gamers can now enjoy up to 20 hours of playtime on a single charge, a significant improvement over the 15 hours offered by the previous generation. This means fewer interruptions and more extended gaming sessions.
• Enhanced Microphone: The updated headset features an improved microphone with better voice isolation, ensuring clearer communication with teammates during online gaming.

While these upgrades are certainly welcome, the price increase might give some potential buyers pause. The original Xbox Wireless Headset was praised for its excellent value proposition, offering solid performance and features at a competitive price point. Whether the new features justify the extra cost will depend on individual needs and priorities.

Personally, I was a big fan of the original Xbox Wireless Headset. The comfortable fit, intuitive controls, and decent sound quality made it my go-to for gaming on Xbox and PC.
