UBON MNT 1670 Mantra wireless speaker review

UBON, the homegrown brand known for their audio products launched the MNT 1670 Mantra speaker during the festive season. What’s unique you ask? There are a bunch of Mantra stored in just like you get old Bollywood songs with the Saregama caravan. Apart from this, the wireless Bluetooth speaker has a lot to offer. We gave the product a try and here are our thoughts on it.

Key Specifications

  • Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity
  • Dual 5W speakers
  • In-built mic
  • 2,400mAh battery
  • Music Play time- 8 Hours
  • Micro USB charging
  • MicroSD card and USB A support

Design

The UBON Mantra speakers have a boombox kind off vibe in its design. The build is entirely carved out of a decent quality plastic with a metallic paint job. The speaker is available in a bunch of colors and we had the Rose Gold model. When looking on the front side, the whole side is covered in mesh with the two 5w driver units underneath. You also find the UBON branding in the center.

Flipping the speaker reveals the different IO ports, all lined up in a straight line. Among the ports is the power on/off button. On the top, you get four buttons, with two of them being multifunction and used as volume and track selection. There are two rubber strips on the bottom for additional grip.

Connectivity

By default, the speaker plays the 5 mantras stored in the memory. But that can be changed by pressing the mode button present up top. The speakers can be paired very easily using the Bluetooth. The speaker also supports a variety of inputs, like SD card, USB and Line in which can be selected using the mode button. There are mics inbuilt which can be used while receiving calls.

Sound Quality and Battery

When looking towards the sound quality, the speaker has a noticeable punch. Considering its main USP, the speaker is good for listening to mantras and vocals in general. The speaker isn’t bass heavy but the soundstage is overall balanced. The speaker is able to get very loud thanks to the dual 5w drivers used here.

Coming to the battery and backup, UBON has fitted the speaker with a 2,400mAh battery which supports up to 8 hours of music playback. We found the claimed figure accurate. The battery takes close to 2 hours to completely top up using any wall charger.

Pricing

  • UBON MNT 1670 Mantra Wireless speaker – INR 1,499

Pros

  • Attractive Design
  • Multiple Input modes
  • Ease of use

Cons

  • Lack of bass

Verdict – Should you go for it?

The UBON MNT 1670 mantra speaker does provide something unique in the market and thus can appeal to a wider audience. Coming to the design, we quite liked the metallic paint job which makes the speaker a little posh for its price but the handle seems very delicate. Sound quality is above average and provides clear vocals.

For the price INR 1,499, the speaker seems like a very decent offering and is totally recommended from our side.
