Lenovo Phab 2 Pro Project Tango smartphone release date pushed to fall

Dubbed as the world’s first commercial Project Tango smartphone, the launch of the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro has reportedly been delayed. The smartphone was officially unveiled back in June when the company announced that it would launch this summer.

However, Lenovo has now pushed the release of the Phab 2 Pro to fall, which has created confusion over the exact availability of the smartphone. Even Lenovo’s US online store has now replaced the “Summer” release with “Fall.” While the company’s Herman Cheng, manager of global tablet marketing communications for Lenovo, claims that the smartphone will be available in stores during this holiday season.

Moreover, the smartphone won’t be launched in a few countries where it was initially considered for release. For instance, Australia is now among the list of countries where the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro won’t be launched.

Lenovo Phab 2 Pro Availability

As the company now shifts focus on other markets in the Asia-Pacific region, which include Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, along with India. The Phab 2 Pro is expected to arrive in these countries as early as next month,  but there’s no information when it’ll launch in other regions.

Lenovo Phab 2 Pro Specs and Price

As far as specs are concerned, Lenovo’s Phab 2 Pro packs a 6.4-inch Quad HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor bundled with GPU specially designed for Tango, along with 4GB  of RAM and 64GB of  built-in storage. There’s also a 16MP primary camera on the back with auto-focus, HDR, and PDAF capable of 4K video recording. In addition, it also gets an 8MP front-facing shooter.

Besides, the Phab 2 Pro is the world’s first smartphone capable of capturing 360-degree sound live recording. Furthermore, the smartphone gets four cameras that essentially act like sensors allowing the phone to process technologies like area learning, depth perception, and motion tracking. It’s the first device to come with Project Tango, which essentially allows the phone to map the surrounding environment. The smartphone has been priced at $499.

Apart from the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro, the company also announced the Phab 2 Plus and Phab 2 smartphones. The Lenovo Phab 2 Plus gets the same 6.4-inch screen size, though comes with a lower 1080p display. Other keys specs include a MediaTek 873 processor bundled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage. The smartphone has been priced at $299.

While the Lenovo Phab 2 gets a 6.4-inch 720p IPS touchscreen display. Powering the smartphone is quad-core MediaTek 8735 processor bundled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage. The Lenovo Phab 2 gets a price tag of $199.
