A job published by Google last month is driving speculations if the company is working on the new Chromebook pixel. The job description is precise and intends to hire a person who can specifically work on the ‘upcoming project’.
Apparently, the job posting was entitled, ‘Quality Engineer, Chromebook Pixel’. In addition, the description goes on to state, “The person selected for the job will be based in Shanghai and will be expected to drive the design of experiments and collect SPC (statistical process control) data to enable evaluation, qualification and verification cost-effectively in manufacturing quality across functional teams” amongst other things.
The job listing was fetched by omgchrome.com, and the description is almost self-explanatory. It compels us to wonder if Google is planning to manufacture another Chromebook Pixel Laptop. The role is definitely of a senior position who has to assemble a team that will work from the scratch.
The job description also stated that “As a Quality Engineer, you will be part of shaping Google’s next game-changer”. Even though this pretty much summarizes that Google is looking to hire someone for taking care of the developments regarding a new product, it will still be a little early to play the judge.
So far, Google has launched two Chromebook Pixels wherein the first was launched in 2013. Designed predominantly for the ‘power users’, it offered a touch screen and it did not perform well within the realms of affordability.
During 2015, an updated version was launched with two price variants- $999 and $1299. The lower priced variant has been discontinued. In September, the company launched a convertible tablet called Pixel C, but the device received mixed reviews. Now for 2016, a majority of people are expecting a touchscreen device because Chromebook can run Android apps as well.
