Apple acquires Indian machine learning startup for complex data analysis

The Cupertino-based tech giant Apple (AAPL) has acquired an India-based machine learning startup Tuplejump. The startup deals in providing business solutions to the enterprises by helping them analyze and process big data with its software. The startup was co-founded by three people – Rohit Rai, Satyaprakash Buddhavarapu, and Deepak Alur. The former two have already joined the Apple.

The smartphone company seems to have got a liking for the machine learning startups. Back in 2015, it acquired Perceptio, and only a few months back Apple bought Turi.

Apple hasn’t commented on the Tuplejump acquisition news till now. In a conversation with TechCrunch, the US-based company said –

APPLE BUYS SMALLER TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES FROM TIME TO TIME, AND WE GENERALLY DO NOT DISCUSS OUR PURPOSE OR PLANS.

So, it was not a complete denial of the fact that it has acquired Tuplejump startup. And, there is more concrete evidence that stamps these reports. After the acquisition, the Tuplejump website went down.

The US-India based machine learning company was working on an open source project FiloDB, which Apple showed interest in. The project is aimed at applying machine learning concepts and analytics to complex data.

Apple is finding more potential in India and its startups. In May 2016, the company opened a development center in Hyderabad, which is the first in India. The center is expected to create 4000 jobs in the country.
