HMD Global confirms India as a major tech power
In a bid to re-enter the smartphone industry, Nokia has established a strategic partnership with HMD Global. By signing a 10-year brand licensing agreement with Nokia, HMD is gearing up to launch several smartphones and tablets in 2017.
Responding to media, HMD Global CEO Arto Nummela disclosed that India is a key primary market for Nokia’s next phase of this journey. The rumored pricing of Rs. 10000 is attributed to cater to the demands of emerging markets. You should note that Nokia D1C will be manufactured by Foxconn.
Nummela added that the growing relationships with mobile service providers, distributors and retailers could push HMD to sell the upcoming Nokia D1C not only in India but also Indonesia and Russia.
A study conducted by Strategy Analytics reveals the fact that Nokia occupies a major market share in the feature phone segment. However, Nokia had lost ground over Samsung and TCL in the last one year.
