Hyundai Motors India is all set to bring its refreshed compact sedan to the India with the new Elantra. The word about dealers already taking pre-orders has been around the block since yesterday. It is official that the car will be launched in the country on 23 August. The compact sedan was first unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto show. The new European design is a big leap from the bolder, and aggressive stance of the 2015 model that is currently being sold in India.
The hexagonal grille on the front fascia looks modern and is similar to Audi’s new front grille design that has already made its way into the 2017 lineup of vehicles. The car sports vertical LED DRLs at the front and separate LEDs for the tail lights.
It is evident that the company has opted to tone down its aggressive styling with its interiors. The tech involves a touch screen multimedia system, along with new upholstery, ventilated seats, a multi-function wheel and more.
The new Elantra is said to carry the existing 1.6-litre diesel engine, which produces 128PS of power. The motor is reportedly up-tuned to produce close to 140 horses. The 1.8-litre petrol engine might be replaced by a larger, 2.0-litre unit that produces 156PS. It is expected that both the engines will get a 6-speed manual and automatic transmission.
Elantra is priced between Rs 15.1 lakh and Rs 19 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The prices are expected to remain at the same levels. The Elantra is battling the likes of the Corolla Altis, the Volkswagen Jetta, and the Skoda Octavia, and it is no easy task, but on paper, the Hyundai does seem well prepared.
The biggest change in the Elantra is the new platform that is expected to improve the rideR experience and handling. It measures 20mm longer and 25mm wider than the current model. The lighter car also has a stiffer body structure. With 53 percent more high-strength steel in comparison to the 21 percent in the older model, Hyundai has increased the safety quotient.
The existing models mentioned above in the range from other brands seem to have gained a serious competitor in the Elantra, and it may not look good for them but, as car lovers, we can’t wait for this one to be set rolling.
