Even the construction industry has gotten into the bandwagon and has begun using terms like construction project management software cloud, and construction project management cloud software.

“The cloud” is one of those ubiquitous words. But what is “the cloud?”

Cloud computing enables users to use a resource like an application as a utility, compared to having to build and maintain the infrastructures needed to store data in-house. Think of it as a utility like water or electricity.

The places where cloud data resides are called Cloud Campuses.  Again a fancy term which means servers ( big computers) that are located in vast acres of land that stores your data and services. The notables are Amazon in Ashburn, Va, Apple in Maiden N.C.,  Equinix, Ashburn, Va., NSA in Utah, Facebook in Prineville Oregon, Microsoft in Boydton, Va,  and Google in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

  1. Nitin, nice summary on what software on cloud offers including security and collaboration. Besides the technical info like encryption, I’d refer NIST cloud definition for a better understanding of what cloud is? The five key characteristics is important to classify a product/service delivered over the internet as cloud. internet alone does not make it a cloud and likewise the browsers.
Software being delivered on a cloud is just a delivery model out of four deployment models.
