Airtel has launched free 4G Wi-Fi facility in 115 buses on a pilot basis in Hyderabad. In a statement released to the press, Airtel disclosed that the company is offering high-speed 4G data service through Wi-Fi on luxury buses in Hyderabad. As part of this facility, passengers will be able to access the Internet for free.
The pilot project was launched in association with Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC). To begin with, Airtel will provide connectivity to 115 buses, which operate on busy routes in the city. The Wi-Fi hotpots will offer speeds up to 10Mbps for free for first 20 minutes. You can then continue by adding data packs.
Commenting on the development, Venkatesh Vijayraghavan, Chief Executive Officer, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Airtel disclosed that the launch of complimentary Wi-Fi services on-the-go is a real step forward in modernizing the lifestyle of our citizens, whether business, education or pleasure.
Vijayraghavan added that this exciting partnership with the Government of Telangana’s TSRTC is the largest in the country. Moreover, the facility delivers joy for travelers as it connects more Hyderabadi citizens than ever before.
As a passenger, you will be able to connect to the Wi-Fi hotspot as soon as you enter the bus. You can connect to Airtel Wi-Fi hotspot, by providing your mobile number. The network will deliver a four digit OTP. You will be able to navigate to the Wi-Fi service after you authenticate the OTP code.
You can avail free Wi-Fi up to 20 minutes per day after establishing connectivity. If you would like to use the service beyond 20 minutes, you need to buy data packs starting Rs. 25 for 100MB.
Airtel will continue to run the free Wi-Fi service for six months on a pilot basis. The company will then decide about the future after gathering feedback and inputs from passengers.
Because of the on-going Demonetization program, consumers will be able to purchase data packs through debit and credit cards. The telecom giant is planning to introduce alternate payment methods in the near future.
