Apple unveils new flagship iPhone Xs Max alongside iPhone Xs, iPhone Xr

Apple’s new iPhone range is finally here. The company unveiled the new flagship iPhone Xs Max and a refreshed version of last year’s iPhone X, dubbed as the iPhone Xs. Alongside the two high-end OLED models, the company also unveiled the much-anticipated entry-level 6.1-inch LCD iPhone, called the iPhone Xr. These new iPhones were announced during the press event at the Steve Jobs Theatre on Apple’s new campus in Cupertino.

Both the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max sport an edge to edge Super Retina OLED display which boast a resolution of 2436×1125 pixels. The iPhone Xs gets a 5.8-inch display while its larger OLED sibling packs a 6.5-inch screen. The iPhone Xr, on the other hand, gets an edge to edge 6.1-inch Liquid Retina LCD display.

Under the hood, all new iPhone models are powered by the latest A12 Bionic SoC built-using the 7nm architecture. Apple claims it can launch apps 30 percent faster compared to last year’s A11 processor. The company also claimed its latest A12 chip can process 5 trillion operations per second, compared to 500 billion of last year’s A11.

Much of the presentation was devoted to showing off the camera updates and Face ID technology. Apple touts FaceID as the ‘most secure facial authentication ever in a smartphone’. The company also mentioned that its newest iPhone range offer better battery performance over their predecessors.

The iPhone Xs will start at $999, and iPhone Xs Max at $1099.  The base variant for the iPhone Xs range is 64GB and goes to a whopping 512GB for the top-end variant.The phones will be available to pre-order on Friday, Sept. 14 and will ship starting on Sept. 21. Both iPhone Xs models come in three colours – gold, silver and space grey. In India, both new OLED iPhone models are expected to arrive on September 28.

The iPhone Xr will be available in 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB configurations and pricing starts at $749. It will be available to pre-order on Oct. 19 and will ship starting on Oct. 27. The iPhone Xr will come in six colour variants – blue, black, silver, red, orange, and yellow.

A lot of information for the new iPhones had leaked before the event. Apple also unveiled the Apple Watch Series 4 at the event.
