Vivo Y93s with dew-drop Notch, MediaTek Helio P22 SoC and 128GB storage launched in China

Vivo Y93

The Chinese smartphone giant Vivo has further expanded its portfolio with the inclusion of the new Vivo Y93s smartphone in its mid-range Y-series, launched today in China.

As the name suggests, the Vivo Y93s is more or less the same Vivo Y93 with certain upgrades concerning hardware and storage. The Y93s replaces the Snapdragon 439 present on Y93 with the MediaTek Helio P22 SoC. Furthermore, the phone now has doubled up the internal storage to 128GB.

The device comes with a 3D micro-arc design at the back that offers better ergonomics, as claimed by the company.

As for the specs, the Vivo Y93s sports a 6.2-inch HD+ IPS LCD with a resolution of 1520 x 720 pixels resolutions and a 19:9 aspect ratio, thanks to the waterdrop notch.

Powering the device is an octa-core MediaTek Helio P22 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM and whopping 128GB of internal storage. It is on par with the Snapdragon 439 given that both the chipsets are clocked at 2.0GHz and built on a 12nm process. Moving on, the given microSD card slot allows for further storage expansion up to 256GB.

In the optics department, the Vivo Y93s gets a dual camera setup at the rear. The configuration comprises a 13-megapixel primary sensor with PDAF autofocus, coupled with a secondary 2-megapixel depth sensor. Moreover, the camera app is powered by nifty AI-assisted features like AI-based portrait mode. On the front, the handset gets a single 8-megapixel shooter. It also supports AR stickers along with Vivo’s custom AI beautification mode that analyses user’s skin texture, colour and light for personalised enhancements.

As you’d have already noticed, the phone lacks a fingerprint scanner. Instead, there’s an AI-powered Facial recognition feature, claimed to detect up to 24 facial features with optimum accuracy. It is used as the primary method of unlocking the device.

On the software front, the Vivo Y93s runs Android 8.1 Oreo with FunTouch OS layered on top. Additional features like Vivo’s custom Jovi AI assistant and a dedicated Game mode are present onboard.

Lastly, the connectivity options on the phone include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and OTG support. Backing all of this is a massive 4,030mAh battery.
