Popular on-demand taxi service Uber finally gives both its Android and iOS apps a much-needed overhaul. The updated Uber app gets major design changes along with new additional features that simplify and add to the overall user experience.
The update essentially improves the app’s software algorithms, giving users all the relevant information pertaining to their ride. It can even predict shortcuts, trip fares along with estimated ride times. Besides, Yelp reviews are also integrated within the Uber app itself.
“Certainty in price and certainty in time, we think, will get people to engage even more in UberPool,” chief executive officer Travis Kalanick told reporters at Uber’s headquarters, referring to the service aimed at ride-sharing commuters.
Uber connects with your Calendar and Contacts
Another key feature introduced with the updated Uber app includes calendar integration. With this feature, all your meetings and appointments automatically show up as shortcuts. Also, there’s a feature called ‘people are the new places,’ which essentially lets you select a person as the destination. With this feature, you can sync your contacts with the Uber app. The app then notifies your friend and asks for permission to share their location. Once your friend grants permission, your Uber ride will drop you at your friend’s location.
Another key addition is the ‘Uber feed‘, a set of informative tools and social media features you can try out during the ride. Currently, Uber has joined hands with Yelp, Pandora, Snapchat and FourSqaure, and plans to add more partners in the near future. The company has also promised that the app now feels much faster and snappier.
Sometimes the basic stuff is the stuff that makes the biggest difference,” Kalanick further adds. “The app loads super fast, it’s snappy, it’s crisp, and it just feels better.”
To recall, it was back in 2012 when Uber’s mobile app received a major update. Since then, the app has gotten cluttered with the company adding more and more features into the app. Though the latest update is designed with a slew of improvements and fast-loading times, offering a more hassle-free user experience.
