Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) with Quad Cameras launched in India: Price, Specifications

After teasing the phone for a while on Amazon and Flipkart, the South Korean giant has finally launched the all-new Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018), today at an event held in Gurugram, India.

The device debuted as the world’s “first rear quad camera” smartphone, a month ago in Kuala Lumpur, taking the crown from Huawei P20 Pro. As you’d guess, the main highlights of the phone are the cameras, followed by an Infinity display and a large battery. Let’s talk about the same in detail.

As for the specs, the A9 (2018) sports a large 6.3-inch Super AMOLED display with a Full-HD+ resolution of 1080×2220 pixels in an 18.5:9 aspect ratio.

Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor coupled with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. The storage can be expanded further up to 512GB via microSD card.

In the optics department, the A9 (2018) bears a Quad-camera setup at the back. It comprises a 24-megapixel primary shooter with f/1.7 aperture clubbed with a 5-megapixel (f/2.2) depth sensor. Additionally, it carries an 8-megapixel wide-angle lens with f/2.4 aperture and a 10-megapixel (f/2.4) telephoto sensor offering 2X optical zoom. The primary unit makes use of pixel binning technique to combine four pixels into one for better low-light photography.

Of the front, the handset gets a 24-megapixel camera for selfies and video calling. Interestingly, the camera app is equipped with nifty features like customizable Live Focus, AI scene optimizer, AR emojis and more.

On the software front, the Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) runs Android 8.1 Oreo with Samsung’s Experience UX on top. Moreover, it draws its juice from a sufficiently large 3,800mAh battery with fast charging support. In addition to the fingerprint scanner, one can also use Face Recognition for unlocking the device.

Connectivity options on the handset include dual-SIM slots, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, USB Type-C, NFC, as well as a 3.5mm jack.

The Galaxy A9 (2018) is priced at Rs. 36,990 for the base variant with 6GB RAM while the high-end 8GB RAM model is tipped at Rs. 39,990, a lot lesser than the global base model price tag of EUR 599 (roughly Rs. 48,900).

The device will be available in Bubblegum Pink, Caviar Black, and Lemonade Blue color options. Pre-bookings to go live from Nov 28 across all major online stores including Amazon, Flipkart, Samsung Shop, Paytm Mall and Airtel online Store apart from the offline outlets. Lastly, customers with HDFC credit or debit card can avail an additional Rs 3,000 cashback while the ones buying through EMI options will receive Airtel postpaid plan bundles along with benefits like unlimited voice calls, national roaming, and a free Airtel TV subscription.
