Nikon launches all new DSLRs and Lenses at CES 2016: D5, D500, KeyMission 360, and 18-55mm Lenses

Nikon D5 2 1

The Nikon conference at CES 2016 has wrapped up, and there are some pretty exciting new products to come out of it. New cameras and additional lens offerings were what was announced, and they’re pretty impressive.

Starting with the lenses, two new 18-55 mm lenses were unveiled. They are designed for Nikon APS-C sensor cameras and contain tech that is supposed to make them faster and quieter than ever before. While we saw them, very few details are available, and any specs we could list would just be nothing but rumors aggregated from other sites. There’s similarly no word about bundling with future DSLRs.

In the camera’s Department, three cameras were unveiled, the Nikon D5 digital SLR, the Nikon D500, and the Nikon KeyMission 360. Nikon claims that these devices contain the most advanced autofocus system in their history, and are perfect for sports and low-light use.

The D5’s specs that we are currently aware of are as follows:

The D5 is the new flagship that people have been waiting for. The D5 is built for accuracy and speed. It goes without saying that the device will be able to shoot 4K out of the box.

Both cameras are using a brand-new Expeed 5 processing engine, but the D500 will contain a smaller DX-format sensor. Nikon’s tagline for the D500 is “I am condensed power,” and it shows. The D500 will also include Nikon’s new SnapBridge wireless technology, allowing connectivity to your smartphone via Bluetooth LE. It’s the successor to Nikon’s D300.

The KeyMission 360 is an interesting cube-shaped spherical camera that is waterproof and shockproof. It will be fully capable of recording 4K video in 360 degrees. It would seem that Nikon is trying to enter into the action cam market with this device, competing with products like GoPro.

Information on price and availability is scarce, but it’s believed the products will be available in spring 2016.
