NASA says it’s not changing the 2000-year-old Zodiac signs

National Aeronautic Space Agency (NASA) has denied the authenticity of any such report which claims that it is changing zodiac signs. The space agency came out in open to say that NASA studies astronomy and not astrology.

NASA spokesperson Dwayne Brown commented on the recently floated reports that created a panic on social media. It said that more than 85 percent of the people does not have the sun sign they believe to have as NASA is planning to update the astrological signs.

Brown clarified saying, “We did not change any Zodiac signs, we just did the math. The Space Place (an educational page for kids run by NASA) article was about how astrology is not astronomy, how it was a relic of ancient history and pointed out the science and math that did come from observations of the night sky.” He also said that people believed the rumors to be true because it was floated to have come from NASA.

How did the Zodiac Sign issue start?

The issue started after the space agency updated its Space Place blog with an educational piece for children. It explained how 3,000 years ago ancient Babylonians believed the fact that continuous changing position of constellations is linked to events on Earth, which resulted in zodiac signs by sky-watchers. The Space Place continues to state that the during that time, the sky-watchers left a constellation Ophiuchus, probably because of their convenience as they had a 12-month calendar.

The Space Place blog page reads

Even then, some of the chosen 12 did not fit neatly into their assigned slice of the pie and slopped over into the next one. To make a tidy match with their 12-month calendar, the Babylonians ignored the fact that the Sun actually moves through 13 constellations, not 12…

Supporting this assertion with a reasoning, they said the Earth’s axis has a tiny wobble due to which the positioning of constellations has shifted today. The spot constellations were at 3,000 years ago, has changed today. The whole blog post by NASA has nothing to do with zodiac signs.
