LG V20 release date in September with Android 7.0 Nougat, Confirmed!

Korean electronics giant LG has officially confirmed the unveiling of its next V series smartphone – the V20. It’ll also be one of the first phones to get the latest Android 7.0 Nougat OS. The successor to last year’s V10, the forthcoming V20 is a premium flagship smartphone slated for a launch in September.

“V20 will run the latest Android OS, making it the first among the newly released smartphones. V20 is expected to set new standards in the premium phone with more expanded multimedia capabilities,” said LG Electronics MC Business Division President Jojunho.

LG introduced the V10 last year whose highlights were the secondary Always On and along with a dual-lens front camera setup. Making it the world’s first smartphone to come with such a feature, as it came with two separate lenses capable of capturing standard 80-degree selfies or wide angle selfies up to 210 degrees. Moreover, it was also the first smartphone featuring built-in Hi-Fi 32- bit DAC Digital to Analog Converter) for high-end audio quality.

LG in collaboration with Google has already released the Nexus 4, Nexus 5 along with the Nexus 5X. The duo has signed a global cross-licensing agreement and is willing to  further strengthen their existing partnership and  patent agreement until 2023.

LG also released its financial results for the second quarter of 2016, with its smartphone unit seeing an operating loss of around $132 million. Despite that, the company is looking forward to better results in the coming future.

“Overall smartphone shipments increased 3 percent from the previous quarter with a total of 13.9 million smartphones shipped in the second quarter. The launch of the new V series and expanding sales of mass-tier K and X series models are expected to improve the business unit’s performance next quarter,” said LG during its earnings statement.

The company’s flagship for 2016 – the LG G5 did not perform as per expectations. It is the one of the world’s first modular smartphones and the company’s attempt at redefining at what a smartphone can do with its modular ethos. The biggest hassle with the G5 is the availability of the accessories that makes the device what it is.  Since the phone’s official launch in April, there are still no other accessories unveiled for it besides the ones announced at launch, which is one of  the reasons why the LG G5 wasn’t much of a success.

However, the company is aiming at making up for these lost sales figure with the upcoming V20 smartphone. However, despite the company’s smartphone business performing below expectations, the company has still managed an overall operating profit of $501 million in the second quarter.
