There are a few more bits of information of the upcoming Galaxy S9 that has emerged thanks to what seems to be an image of the retail packaging of the phone that has leaked online. Going by those, we can expect the S9 to debut features such as dual stereo speakers as well as an f1.5 lens for superior low light photography.
Interestingly, as Android Headlines reported, the f/1.5 lens, which in itself is the highest the smartphone segment has seen so far is currently available on only another handset which again happens to be another of Samsung’s unique offering, the W2018 flip phone. If the f/1.5 aperture isn’t exciting enough, the rear camera setup will also have the ability to dynamically shift between f/1.5 and f/2.4 as per the external lighting conditions.
No points for guessing the higher f/1.5 setting will come into play in low light conditions or for close-up images where the opening would be at the max to let as much light stream in as possible. In other scenarios, the aperture has the range to a max of f/2.4 to ensure available light is optimally used.
A 12-mp rear camera had earlier been talked of though there is no confirmation of the same. The box though mentioned the selfie cam to be of 8-mp resolution. Earlier rumors meanwhile had predicted a heavily reworked rear design where the twin camera lens are centrally located in a vertical line with the LED flash accommodated slightly along the side of the cameras.
As for the other leak, it’s a dual stereo speaker that would be integrated in the S9. This should make for a significant improvement over the S8 that comes with a single speaker system. Further, the speakers (as are the earphones) are mentioned to have been tuned by AKG.
As for the rest of the specs, the S9 is almost sure to continue with largely the same design language as its predecessor with a 5.8-inch Quad HD+ sAMOLED screen dominated the front. That should make for a longish 18.5:9 aspect ratio. Also, a 4 GB RAM/64 GB ROM would be the standard offering for the S9 with the S9+ likely benefitting from a bigger 6 GB RAM for the base configuration. A new face scanning security setup too is being touted comprising of improved iris scanners along with P68 levels of water and dust proofing and wireless charging features.
Fortunately, we won’t have to wait for long to come across all the details as the S9 is slated to launch only in the next month during MWC in Barcelona.
