Google Science Fair 2016: Shriyank and Mansha Fatima to compete with 14 finalists

When India is about to celebrate its 70th Independence Day, two young teens Shriyank and Mansha Fatima have brought proud for our country. These young students have been selected for the sixth Annual Google Science Fair 2016 among the total 16 Global finalists. The students who are from Bangalore and Hyderabad will compete for a grand prize of $50,000 worth scholarship. All the shortlisted sixteen finalists will be traveling with their respective families to the Google global headquarters based in Mountain View, California. The students will present their projects before a distinguished panel of judges. The final winner will be announced at a ceremony on September 27, 2016.

Shriyank, aged 16 years is currently pursuing his schooling from National Public School, Bangalore. He submitted a project titled “KeepTab: A novel way to aid memory with deep learning algorithms!” as part of the selection process. However, Mansha Fatima is only 15-year old and is undergoing 10th-grade junior at Sadhu Vaswani International School, Hyderabad. Here project was on “Automated Water Management and Monitoring System in Paddy Fields”.

Commenting on the selection of 16 young students, Andrea Cohan, program lead, Google Science Fair disclosed that the response to the fair was huge this year. The company saw a wide range of projects such as a breathalyzer test that could predict lung cancer, carbon filter that may significantly decrease styrofoam waste. Moreover, the top 16 projects from nine countries across the world represent the brightest ideas to achieve things in an improved manner through science and engineering.

Google Science Fair 2016 aims to reap the hidden talents among young kids worldwide. The selected students will not have to travel to Silicon Valley and present their respective projects before an eminent panel of judges. Google is giving away several awards with the grand prize of US $50000 worth scholarship. Google will live stream the closing ceremony and awards distribution on September 27.

Google Science Fair 2016, part of Google for Education is jointly organized by Google in association with LEGO Education, Scientific American, National Geographic and Virgin Galactic.
