Ganesh Chaturthi, Vinayaka Chaturthi, Ganesh Festival, Vinayagar Chaturthi, Vinayaka Chavithi… different names but the reason of celebration remains the same. Ganesh Chaturthi is 10 days long festival celebrated with a big bang across the country. This year on 5th September, Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesh.
Lord Ganesh is worshiped as lord of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune. The festival begins with people bringing Lord Ganesh idols home and even set up pandals (Tents) for worshipping the god in huge gatherings. The Pandals are beautifully decorated and some cultural events like skits, dances etc. are also organized. On the final day, devotees bid farewell to Lord Ganesh by immersing their idols in the river.
