Remedy Entertainment, the studio behind Control and Alan Wake, has just announced FBC: Firebreak, a cooperative first-person shooter spin-off set in the mysterious and dangerous world of the Federal Bureau of Control. Coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2025, this new title promises intense action, otherworldly enemies, and a deep dive into the lore of Control.
Announced during the October 2024 Xbox Partner Preview event, FBC: Firebreak puts players in the shoes of agents within the Bureau’s elite Firebreak unit. Tasked with containing paranormal threats, players will team up in three-player squads to tackle missions within the Oldest House and beyond. Think of it as the X-Files meets Left 4 Dead, with a healthy dose of Remedy’s signature weirdness.
This isn’t just a small DLC or a simple add-on. Remedy has emphasized that FBC: Firebreak is a full-fledged, standalone experience. “It’s not designed to be some kind of lesser, bite-sized Control,” says Game Director Mike Kayatta. “FBC: Firebreak is its own, fully formed thing.” The game will feature new characters, new enemies, and new stories that expand the universe established in Control.

My Take:
As a huge fan of Control, I’m incredibly excited about FBC: Firebreak. The prospect of exploring the Oldest House with friends, uncovering new secrets, and battling interdimensional threats together is incredibly appealing. Remedy has a knack for creating atmospheric and engaging worlds, and I can’t wait to see how they translate their unique style into a cooperative shooter experience.
I’m particularly interested in seeing how the narrative unfolds. Will we encounter familiar faces like Jesse Faden or Emily Pope? What new threats will we face? And will the game shed more light on the mysterious Board and the nature of the Astral Plane? Hopefully, we won’t have to wait too long to find out.
