Freedom 251

Noida-based company Ringing Bells has officially launched the world’s cheapest smartphone Freedom 251. Priced at Rs. 251 ($3.67), Freedom 251 was launched by Sri Manohar Parrikar, Union Defence Minister at an event held in New Delhi on February 17 with Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi, MP presiding over the event.

Manufactured under Make in India, Digital India, and Skill India program initiatives, the company had informed users that Freedom 251 will be available for booking from 6 AM on February 18. However, as per reports coming in, customersĀ areĀ unable to place orders for the device due to technical issues.

Commenting on the launch, an official spokesperson of the company revealed that Freedom 251 is a flagship model which is all set to bring a revolution in the industry. Moreover, the company disclosed that parts are imported from overseas and the handset is assembled in India at their own facility. However, the company is planning to manufacture spares in India as well by the end of 2016.

Freedom 251 is being sold exclusively through the official website and not through e-commerce companies. To place an order, you need to visit freedom251.com and click on the Buy Now button.

On the displayed cart page, you will be able to adjust the quantity and provide the shipping address where the phone will be delivered by the end of June 2016. You will be required to pay Rs. 40 as shipping charge for one quantity. If you intend to place an order for more than one quantity, you will be charged Rs. 40 each for every Freedom251 smartphone.

As of writing this, we are unable to purchase Freedom 251 because a blank page shows up upon selecting Pay Now button. According to company sources, an apparent technical glitch has triggered their servers and the technical team is working hard to resolve the issue.

Responding to the technical problem, the company apologized for the inconvenience caused and stated that their technical team is trying to fix this issue. Moreover, the company also request all users to support and trust them.

Coming to specifications, Freedom 251 flaunts a 4-inch qHD IPS display, 1.3 GHz Quadcore Processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage (expandable up to 32GB) and 1450mAh battery. While the primary camera features a 3.2MP sensor with AF, Freedom 251 also includes a VGA front-facing shooter with 0.3MP sensor.

Without compromising on the software front, the handset packs Android Lollipop 5.1 in addition to several apps such as Women Safety, Swachh Bharat, Fisherman, Farmer, Medical, WhatsApp, Facebook and YouTube among others.
