The largest chemical company in South Korea – LG Chemical or popularly known as LG Chem is reported to be officially appointed by Apple Inc.(AAPL) As the sole battery supplier for the American brand’s upcoming flagship – Apple iPhone 9, claimed a Korean new report on Friday. Apple’s iPhone 9 is expected to mark its commercial debut in 2018 and if the latest report from The Korea Economic Daily is accurate; then the South Korean giant has undoubtedly scored a big win.

As reported by the Korea Economic Daily, citing an unnamed and reliable chemical industry source, LG has made whopping hundreds of billions of investments to strengthen the wherewithal of its production facilities so that the stringent approaches of Apple Inc. can be met. As the American multinational Apple usually prefer multi-vendor strategy for its iPhones’ battery and other crucial component supply, signing up for LG Chem is surely a big victory for the Korean company. As the report confirmed, the mass production of the iPhone 9 batteries will be starting from early 2018.

As the new Korean report highlighted, the LG Chem will be in charge of producing the so-called ‘L-shaped’ battery for the upcoming iPhone 9. L-Shaped batter involves a design which previously has been tipped for Apple’s this year’s edition – the OLED ‘iPhone 8’. But instead, the upcoming flagship is now estimated to come with this innovative battery design which will allow it to last longer than other iPhone models.

Regarding battery, the L-shape will have a bowed design at its bottom and will represent an increased size over the existing rectangular-shaped iPhone batteries. It will run on the PCB mainboard which will make it more compact for making extra space. In addition to this, today’s report of The Korea Economic Daily also has claimed that the changed shape of iPhone 9 battery will also result in better and quicker charging speeds.

Though, Apple yet hasn’t confirmed about the specs and release date of its on-the-card iPhone 9 officially, but an unofficial leak, published in May this year claimed that iPhone 9 would boast an OLED display manufactured by South Korean Giant Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd (SSNLF), and it is more likely to arrive with 2 variants in terms of display – a standard model with 5.28 inch screen and a superior model with 6.46 inch screen. It is also expected to ship with a sleek and transparent look with exclusive features like a bigger battery, powerful camera, and higher RAM than its precursors.

When it is supposed to be introduced anytime between 2018 to 2019, none of the specifications and launch date.
