Android 7.0 Nougat OTA update starts hitting Sony Xperia X Performance

Sony has started to roll out the Android 7.0 Nougat update to Xperia X Performance. Previously, Sony has rolled out an update for Nougat in test mode for Xperia X Performance via Xperia beta program.

If you have access to the phone, you will likely view periodic alerts from time to time since the updates have kicked off. However, the latest Android Nougat update is limited to select markets. Moreover, the latest update is compatible only with those Xperia X Performance handsets bearing model number F8131. The update is also compatible with Xperia Performance Dual bearing model number F8132, which is the Dual SIM variant.

We don’t have any information about the specific regions where the Android 7.0 Nougat update will be rolled out. Based on reports, the update is limited to few select regions. Sony will launch the update in all markets where Xperia X Performance handsets were sold. But there is no clarity regarding the countries or regions.

To install Android 7.0 Nougat on your phone, go to Settings > About Phone > Software update > Check for updates.

The Android 7.0 Nougat update features improvements such as support for multi-window. This is one of the most favorite features among users who managed to work on it. You can also expect the addition of an enhanced Doze mode.

That being said, handsets manufactured by Sony are well known for their excellent battery life. Hence, the addition of a Doze mode will only add extra battery power to Sony phones. A Sony phone with typical 2-day battery life will be capable of extending its life to 3 days with the help of Doze mode.

Interestingly, the Xperia X Performance is the first handset to receive an update to Android Nougat. As of writing this, we don’t have any information about the other phones expected to get Android Nougat update. There are reports that Sony will push an update to the recently released Xperia XZ flagship phone.

To recall, Xperia X Performance was showcased during the Mobile World Congress in February 2016 as a top-tier smartphone.
