American Customer Satisfaction Index ranks Samsung ahead of Apple

Despite magnificent iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus launches and being the star smartphone vendor of 2014, Apple could not defend its position in terms of customer satisfaction. For the first time, Samsung beat Apple in terms of customer satisfaction among the mobile phone vendors in America.

According to the American Customer Satisfaction Index, Apple was down by two points YoY, scoring 79 compared to top-scorer Samsung with 81 points. Samsung scored five points more on the Index compared to its performance in 2013, reflecting more happy customers in 2014.

Samsung’s 2014 highlights including the launch of premium Galaxy S5 with a heart rate monitor and a fingerprint scanner. The company claimed this feature-rich phone to be dustproof and waterproof.

Late in 2014, the company launched an impressive Galaxy Note 4 phablet with a 5.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display. The phablet is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 on 2.65GHz Krait 450 processors and Adreno 420 GPU.

Despite impressive expansion of its product line-up, Samsung reported lowest profits in three years and outshining Apple in terms of consumer satisfaction will help its end 2014 on a happy note.

For Apple, the year was mixed as the release of iOS 8 triggered problems in early months following its launch. Users complained call drops, connectivity issues and certain other usability glitches.

The problems made headlines undermining the upgrade with new custom keyboards, new apps, new features, a new health app, a new iCloud Drive, iMessage features galore and exciting new camera features.

The size of the problem could be assessed by Apple’s decision to roll back the 8.0.1 update. The buggy release plagued call forwarding and also caused other issues while accessing visual voicemail or trying to enter iCloud Keychain verification codes.

Unfortunately, new updates came with new problems and Apple got to fix them over the period.
