India to diminish greenhouse gas emission up to 35% by 2030, says Javadekar in LS

India to reduce greenhouse gas

India is committed to cutting down emission of greenhouse gases by up to 35% by 2030. Central Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change – Prakash Javadekar announced this news on Wednesday in the Lok Sabha.

Replying to a question by Rajan Vichare of Shiv Sena and Gutha Sukender Reddy of Congress in the Lok Sabha, the Union Minister said that India is a party to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (Unfccc).

All the parties have been asked to submit a roadmap that envisages reducing greenhouse gasses up to 30% from 2005 levels by 2030.

India has also chalked out a plan that includes producing 40% of its cumulative electric power installed capacity will be from non-fossil fuel by 2030.

The target is a stiff one, but the minister was optimistic that it can be achieved. On the question of funds, the minister said that it will be met with the transfer of technology and soft loans internationally that will also include Green Climate Fund.

India has asked the developed world to pay for their past and walk the talk. It found support from Brazil, South Africa, and China. It wanted the developed world to honor their pre-2020 commitments and sought a clear roadmap ahead.

The rich – poor divide is very much evident in the crucial talks in France to control Global Warming. India has said that it will be a facilitator and flexible in finding a solution to the vexed question of Global warning.

However, the developed world must make amends and take a fair share of responsibility. They must allow the developing world a fair deal for ensuring equality in development. Though India is not the cause of the problem, it will act as a facilitator for a solution.
