BSNL Free National Roaming from June 15 Onwards

New Delhi – BSNL users are in for a delight! Beginning June 15, the state-owned telecom firm – BSNL will offer its subscribers free incoming calls on roaming. yes, BSNL Free Roaming!!

The announcement comes ahead of full mobile number portability (MNP), which is set to roll out from July.

The service will allow mobile users to retain their numbers across India even after shifting circles/states. So, any BSNL user’s geographic location wouldn’t matter anymore; where they go wherever they use their mobile in the country, there will be no roaming charges.

BSNL Free Roaming from June 15

The announcement was made by Telecom and IT minister – Ravishankar Prasad during a press conference in the city.

BSNL will start offering free national roaming from June 15. It’s already on the recovery path. The government is taking all possible steps to revive the two state-owned entities. The efforts are bearing fruit, BSNL’s revenue went up 2.1 per cent in 2014-15 and active subscribers rose 47 lakhs, thus reversing the negative trend of previous years”, he was quoted saying while marking one year of the Modi government and highlighting its achievement.

Adding to the statement of the minister, Anupam Shrivastav, BSNL CMD said that although there could be slight reduction in revenue on account of free incoming calls during roaming, the firm expects to gain first mover advantage and anticipate offsetting this amount by arresting churnout/porting out and acquiring new customers.

Recently, majority of telecom operators including BSNL, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Idea Cellular had reduced roaming tariffs by 20-40 per cent for their users after TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) reduced ceiling tariffs for roaming charges.

Will these benefits of freedom of movement across the country help BSNL expand its user base?

Let’s wait and watch how things unfold for the company in the near future.
