Transsion Holdings launches Tecno in India- decides to sell only through offline channels

Chinese smartphone maker, Transsion Holdings has introduced a new brand in India called ‘Tecno’. Its first launch event unveiled five smartphones namely- i3, i3 Pro, i5, i5 Pro and i7.

In a shocking move the company has decided to sell through offline retailers only. Apart from providing high-end specs at affordable prices, Chinese companies are known to come up with such baffling marketing gimmicks. The last company to make such a bold move was OnePlus and surely a large part of its success story can be accounted for by the exclusivity provided by the invite system.

The i3 and i5 series will be sold in only three states initially starting on 22nd April- Rajasthan, Gujarat and Punjab. The i7 will start selling only on 17th of May.

The company said that the pre-fix ‘i’ stands for ‘India’ as the devices are made for India. Here is a list of the prices of each of the devices:

i3- INR 7,990

i3 Pro- INR 9,990

i5- INR 11,490

i5 Pro- 12,990

i7- INR 14,990

All of the devices are equipped with the PIXELEX technology that enables the camera to take good quality pictures in low light. Apart from this the front camera is also equipped with LED flash for better quality night selfies.

The anti-oil fingerprint sensor allows the user to unlock the smartphones even with moist fingers. This is very suitable for the general Indian weather conditions. The rocket charging technology allows the phone to be charged from 0 to 80 per cent in 60 minutes.

Choosing to sell through offline retailing only is a very bold move. The decision to sell only in three states may be because the company wants to test such a marketing move in a market highly driven by online sources.

Tecno also came introduced a ‘151’ Promise which gives 100 days replacement, 50 percent buyback and warranty period one-time screen replacement.
