Reliance Jio has gained more than 5.8 additional users in March for its services making it to directly control about 9.3% of the telecom market in India. The latest report updates from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) indicates that the company has achieved more consumers to their base a shift that could benefit the overall telecom industry.
By April this year, the company had already signed up about 72 million Prime users and has more than 100 million data subscribers on its telecom network. Reliance Jio is rapidly becoming the leading telecom company in the country, with the increasing number of broadband data users.
The industry is currently controlled by the other giants including Airtel which controls the largest market share with 23.39% of the overall subscribers, followed by Vodafone that has about 17.87 shares of the market. The Idea controls about 16.7% followed by the newly launched Reliance Jio which trails on a fourth position with 9.29% users.
The company entered the Indian market last year with the highly competitive packages for its customers. Reliance has continuously offered the free plans for their unlimited 4G high-speed data bundles, the free VoLTE calls and SMS and other free services for almost six months now. The free data plan has enabled the new entrant to obtain more than 100 million users, most of them coming from its rivals.
The company allows customers to pay only for their affordable data services. Other services offered by the company remain free of charge including the VoLTE calls, the SMS, and the app services. According to the reports from the firm, Reliance has achieved a great milestone by converting more than 72 million users to their Prime membership plan in a short period of time.
The Reliance Jio, which officially launched its operations in the country in September last year, has interrupted the Indian telecom industry making its rivals to follow suit by slashing their data tariff plans in order to continuously control their market shares. With an addition of about a million subscribers each day, Jio is gaining customers faster than many global companies such as Skype, Facebook, and Whatsapp.
