P.M. Pushpa Mittra Bhargava is not happy with the direction the country in which “today’s” Government steered by the BJP has taken. The return of the Padma Bhushan award to President Pranab Mukherjee by the well-known scientist and founder-director of the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) is an indication enough that Bhargava is devastated.
Explaining his actions in a letter to the President, the 87-year-old Dr. Bhargava stated that he was concerned about the current prime socio-politico condition in the country that was not for the benefit of anyone.
BJP government does not have Democracy anymore, and the path it has chosen to drive the country that is a Hindu religious autocracy may not have good implications. Minorities are not of any significance, having been pushed to feel like second-class citizens of their own motherland.
The push to return the award to the president granted in 1986 from the then President of India, Shri Giani Zail Singh is a show of respect, admiration and desire of what should be done to put the country in a better position.
Bhargava argues that it is the citizen’s obligation to devolve themselves in the development of a scientific temper and humanism. They should also be driving all their efforts towards. However, this is inhibited by the superstition and irrationality within BJP which is the political front of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
In support of his argument, Bhargava made reference to the latest statement of Shri Mohan Bhagwat that insinuated marriage is a contract that dictates a woman to be a housewife only hence she should not engage herself in any external work obligations. The lynching to death of Mohamed Akhlaq may have been the climax indication of how BJP wants to take control what Hindus should or should not eat.
Having been a scientist for the last 65 years, he also raised his concerns over a healthy rebellion against PM Modi’s government that seems not to acknowledge or appreciate science.
