Mercedes-Benz has released its half-year results and its lineup for 2017. The biggest models to get a facelift are the S-Class and the GLA compact crossover. These will be launched in 2017. The much awaited E-Class coupe will be released later this year along with the all-terrain model.
The current generation S-Class Mercedes-Benz was introduced in 2014 and it has been proven to be a major success. Rumours tell us that not much is expected to change in terms of appearance besides the lighting packages. However, the cabin could have more luxury options. The current S-class debuted globally just six months ago and is expected to be launched soon in the Indian market.
Soon after its launch, the GLA became the smallest crossover from the three-Pointed Star. It also became the second most popular car in the lineup after the A-Class. The changes in the E-Class are expected to be minimal in terms of the body. The cabin is supposed to get updated features like a big touchscreen and new trim packages.
The current gen E-Class was launched last year and since then Mercedes-Benz has been letting out bits of body styles for its mid-size sedan. The two versions (sedan and estate) are already on sale. The Coupe and the Cabriolet use the same engines that the sedan does. This time, it is expected that there will be a diesel and AMG for both.
The All-terrain version that is supposed to be a new addition to the lineup will be up against the likes of the Audi A6. The E-Class estate will flaunt a muscular body kit, larger wheels, and higher suspension. This design has been introduced keeping in mind its popularity in the current market.
The Audi A6 is just one of the opponents. Others include the X series of BMW, the Range Rover etc. The Daimler AG brand may be experienced in the luxury vehicles market, but as is shown from the snail’s pace sale of their GLS across the globe, they stand against stiff competition. It will be interesting to see what USP they advertise in India. Lower budget SUVs like Duster have done exceptionally well in the country, whether or not a high-end one is received well, is for time to tell.
