Ringing Bells to roll out another 65,000 Freedom 251 smartphones

Ringing Bells has already delivered Freedom 251 smartphones, and on Monday it announced that it would deliver 65,000 more devices to those who had booked the smartphone that costs no more than Rs. 251.

In mid-February this year the company revealed plans to deliver 25 lakh handsets before the 30th of June. The company had received more than seven crore registrations before the payment gateway crashed.

To combat the high delivery expectations, the company started a lottery system a few days back. It means that a certain percentage of the people who placed the order would be randomly picked from different states and one by one the company would start delivering the smartphones.

The company claims to have started the deliveries in states including West Bengal, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, New Delhi, Punjab, Maharashtra, Jammu & Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.

After these 65,000 units are delivered, the total count of the device across the country is supposed to be 70,000. Ringing Bells’ founder and CEO Mohit Goel assures that the company has kept its promise to consumers.

Earlier he had also assured that they have close to two lakh handsets and would start delivery by June 30. He had also said that the company could open registrations again.
The 3G device is said to pack a 1.3GHz quad-core processor. It also sports a 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal memory that is expandable up to 32GB via microSD card.

The rear camera is 8MP with flash, and the front camera is 3.2MP. The battery is clocked at 1,800 mAh, and the device runs on Android 5.1 (Lollipop). The customers are expected to pay via cash on delivery.

Priced at Rs 251, this device has evoked a lot of interest not only in the Indian market but also worldwide. Low-cost smartphones have been a thing for a while but one that costs less than $4 is something apart. The clear target of the company is the low-income group and youngsters who aspire to own a smartphone. Afterall, who doesn’t have $4.
