Year 2015 was not good for Qualcomm with the disappointing performance of its Snapdragon 810. The Chipmaker has been under a lot of pressure after dominating the industry for some time now.
The loss for one becomes the benefit of other and Samsung was quick to capitalize on the situation with its Exynos 7420, 2015’s most successful mobile processor. Qualcomm is under immense pressure to deliver or loose relevance to Samsung. The US-based chip-making giant is trying to maintain its grip on a highly competitive market.
The details of Snapdragon 830 are pretty premature at present, but one can make a guess of what could be expected from the next generation of processors. Qualcomm has focused on architectural refinement and amalgamating critical technologies for optimum performance. If the chip maker is successful in this venture, it will once again establish itself as the numero uno mobile AP manufacturer in the world.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 Specs
The SD 830 chipset could be announced this year, but it will hit the shelves only in 2017. It could make its debut in the Samsung’s 2017 Galaxy S8 flagship. The processor will use the 10 nanometer FinFET process with Kyro 200 architecture clocked at 2.2GHz. It could also feature the Adreno 540 Graphic Processing Unit and an X16 baseband capable of download speed of 980 Mbps. It boasts an LPDDR4X memory and 4K × 2K / 60fps video recording, dual lifting performance, and functionality.
Information trickling out from reliable sources in China reveals that the next generation of Snapdragon processors is being manufactured on the 10nm, and this makes it the first major to make this quantum leap in technology. The company is also refining its in-house Kryo cores on its processors to augment performance and reduce power consumption.
The chip segment is getting hotter and competition keener. MediaTek is pulling out all plugs to ready its latest Helio X30 high-end chipset into the market. Qualcomm which is working feverishly to perfect its next generation Snapdragon 830 chipset to ensure it features in flagships next year.
The Helio X30 chipset of MediaTek is also believed to use the same 10nm process. It is not sure which one of these two will have a better performance. Experts opine that the SD 830 will drastically reduce power consumption and will have better heat control features.
