Gold comes slowly while leveling. A repair stop takes most of a quest reward, and the first mount is a long way off. Gathering professions fix that better than anything else, because nodes are everywhere and nobody has to invite you. WoW Forever keeps all three of them and adds a few new materials on top. The level cap stays at 60, and gathering is one of the few ways to earn gold on the way there.
Three Gathering Professions at a Glance
Three professions, three different starts. Herbalism has no tool at all, Mining asks for a pick and Skinning waits until a creature is dead. Here is how they compare, according to the Wowhead and Icy Veins guides for WoW Forever.
| Profession | Tool You Need | How You Find Materials | Common Partner |
| Herbalism | None | Find Herbs shows nodes on the minimap | Alchemy |
| Mining | Mining Pick (kept in your bags) | Find Minerals shows ore nodes on the minimap | Blacksmithing, Engineering |
| Skinning | Skinning Knife (stays in your bags) | Loot the corpse, then skin it | Leatherworking |
All three turn time spent in the world into WoW forever gold, and none of them needs a group. That is the real advantage: you gather while you quest, run to a dungeon or wait for a party to fill.
Herbalism: Nodes You Pass Anyway
Herbalism is the easiest of the three to start. No tool is required, and once Find Herbs is on, every node near you shows up on the minimap. Hovering over a dot tells you which herb it is.
Wowhead’s Herbalism in WoW Forever guide lists where each herb group shows up as your skill rises:
| Skill Range | Herbs | Zones to Try |
| 1–70 | Peacebloom, Silverleaf, Earthroot | Any starting zone |
| 70–115 | Mageroyal, Briarthorn, Stranglekelp (underwater only) | Darkshore, Loch Modan, Silverpine Forest |
| 115–170 | Bruiseweed, Wild Steelbloom, Kingsblood, Liferoot | Hillsbrad Foothills, Wetlands, Stonetalon Mountains |
| 170–205 | Fadeleaf, Goldthorn, Khadgar’s Whisker | Stranglethorn Vale, Arathi Highlands |
The guide also mentions new endgame herbs, Marefoil, Demonsage and Death Lotus, but their locations are not documented yet, so those nodes are worth watching for on the way to level 60. The 115–170 stretch is the longest in the table, with four herbs spread over three zones, and players who need cash for repairs along the way sometimes look at World of Warcraft forever gold for sale instead of looping the same field.
A few leveling shortcuts are worth knowing:
- Goldthorn Tea adds a temporary +15 Herbalism, and the bonuses stack, so you can pick herbs up to 25 levels above your skill.
- Tauren get Cultivation, which in WoW Forever duplicates a nearby herb.
- Druids can use Travel Form and Prowl to escape when a mob wanders over.
- Leather gloves with a gathering bonus help, but not every class can wear them.
Mining: Four Ranks Up to Skill 300
Mining works a little differently. According to the Icy Veins mining guide, the profession has four ranks, and each one raises the highest skill you can reach, up to 300. You need a Mining Pick in your bags and, for smelting, a forge in a major city or a settlement. Smelting needs ore and ore needs time at the veins, so a few players pay for the first Mining Pick and a stack of bars by buying WoW forever gold.
Here is what the guide says about the route:
- Copper veins are worth digging between skill 1 and 100. Tin covers 65 to 165, and iron covers 125 to 225.
- Higher up, gold veins work from 155 to 255, and mithril from 175 to 275.
- Truesilver and dark iron start at 230, and thorium veins at 245.
- A new ore, Heavy Thorium, is smelted at a Molten Foundry and is likely meant for level 60 crafted gear, though where to mine it is not known yet.
Mining also pairs well with something. Bars go straight into gear for players who craft it themselves, and everyone else can sell them to a crafter. If a stack has no use for you at the moment, keep it for a few days, because metal often sells better just before a raid week.
Fitting Gathering Around a Busy Week
Some weeks leave no room for a gathering loop. Work, school and a short evening can empty the schedule before you reach the first node. When the mount is close and the gold is not, it makes sense to buy WoW forever gold for the mount fund and keep your own gathering for the materials you actually use.
It works as a supplement. Gather when you can, top up when you can’t, and the first mount arrives on time either way.
Skinning: Corpses Other Players Leave Behind
Skinning is the only gathering profession that depends on combat. You need a Skinning Knife in your bags, and the creature’s regular loot has to be collected before the corpse can be skinned. Icy Veins adds a useful detail: each corpse can be skinned only once, even if several group members have the profession. Skinners who fall behind on repairs sometimes cover the gap with WoW forever gold for sale and keep skinning on the way.
The skill a mob needs depends on its level:
- Mobs of level 1 to 10 need 1 skill.
- From level 11 to 20 the requirement is ten times the mob’s level minus ten: a level 17 mob calls for 70 skill, since (17 − 10) × 10 = 70.
- Starting at level 21 it is simply five times the mob’s level, so skinning a level 42 mob takes 210 skill.
That is why skinners tend to hunt beasts while they quest. New materials are Pristine Leather, Pristine Hide and Pristine Scale, which go into new armor, bags and higher-level recipes. Fel Leather and Fel Hide feed more armor recipes, though where to find them is not documented yet. Low-level mobs need only 1 skill, so the slow part comes later, once creatures reach level 20 and the requirement becomes five times their level. Players who would rather not spend those evenings skinning sometimes go for buying World of Warcraft forever gold instead.
Scarce Materials and the Legacy Perk
Wowhead’s guides mark a few materials as scarce: Frilled Lichen, Rosecap and Stranglevine from herbalism, Pyrite, Bauxite and Pitchblende from mining. No drop rates are given, which makes them hard to plan around. A player who is one rare item short of a recipe can buy World of Warcraft forever gold and shop for it on the market, rather than checking the same nodes day after day.
The Legacy System adds a perk called Bountiful Harvest. The perk has five ranks, and the guides say it raises the amount of scarce materials from mining, herbalism and skinning by 20 percent. Players who gather every week will probably want it.
A Weekly Gathering Loop
A short loop keeps gathering from taking over your evenings:
- Pick one profession pair and one zone for the week.
- Turn on tracking before you leave town.
- Skin what you kill while you quest.
- Visit a forge before the evening ends, because ore waits for the forge, while hides and herbs wait for a crafting partner.
- Whatever your own character cannot use goes to the Auction House, a few items per listing, with a quick look at the prices after your next run.
Long sessions are not necessary here. A couple of short, planned loops a week keep the mount fund growing.
