GTA VI Delayed Again—Now Pushed to May 2026

Rockstar Games has officially delayed the release of Grand Theft Auto VI to May 26, 2026, moving it from its previously planned fall 2025 launch. The announcement was made via a statement on X (formerly Twitter), where the company expressed regret over the postponement and emphasized the need for additional development time to meet fans’ expectations and ensure high quality.

This delay marks another setback for fans who have awaited the game for years. The first trailer for GTA VI, released in December 2023, hinted at a Vice City setting and introduced Lucia, the series’ first female protagonist. However, with the extended development timeline, it remains uncertain whether these elements will appear in the final version.

Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, expressed support for the delay, emphasizing the importance of delivering a top-tier experience and forecasting long-term growth and value for shareholders. Despite this, the news prompted a near 7% drop in Take-Two’s stock.

Fans expressed mixed reactions, with some disappointed but unsurprised given prior delays, and others hopeful given the assignment of a specific release date. On Reddit, several fans noted they had seen this before and wouldn’t be surprised if the release was delayed again. Others took a more optimistic tone, saying an exact release date means it will actually happen this time around.

The delay also affects the broader gaming industry, as other publishers may now adjust their own release schedules to take advantage of the absence of competition from Rockstar during the critical fall release window. Many new game launches are now expected around October and November 2025.

While the delay is disappointing, Rockstar’s commitment to quality suggests that the final product will meet, if not exceed, expectations. Fans will have to wait a bit longer to return to the streets of Vice City in one of the most anticipated games of the decade.
