The subscribers of AirtelNet could face problems with speed as one of the international undersea cables has been hit by the cyclone “Vardah”. The coastal regions of northern Tamil Nadu including Chennai, Tituvallur and Kancheepuram, faced the brunt of the storm and many people have been evacuated to safer places.
Airtel spokesman informed that one of its international undersea cables have been damaged by the cyclone and as a result, Internet traffic can be affected. AirtelNet could face problems with speedConsumers at some locations may be experiencing low internet speeds.
AirtelNet subscribers have also been informed by the company that there will be a hitch in international web traffic and the engineers are working to normalise the operations at the earliest.
The cyclonic storm ‘Vardah’ has been described as one of the most powerful to have hit the state in two decades. The storm did not cause many human casualties because of prompt evacuation but the damage to infrastructure and property has been immense. Telecommunication lines have been snapped in coastal Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kanchipuram. Rail and road traffic to the coastal regions have been severely affected.
The storm is described as one of the strongest and winds were clocking 120 kph. The storm uprooted thousand of trees, tore hoardings and had people scurrying to safety. The state has just witnessed the death of its high profile CM, Miss Jayalalitha and incumbent CM is grappling with another crisis.
The coastal regions of North Tamil Nadu are on high alert. The Met department has said that the intensity of the cyclone will weaken after it makes a landfall near Chennai between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. People living in low-lying areas have been shifted to higher grounds, and the NDRF teams are involved in full force in the relief operations.
