If you have ever dreamt of racing in a futuristic, high-performance supercar to hit the road, your avante-garde dream is yet to be fulfilled. But Mercedes offers a consolation prize in the form of its virtual Mercedes Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo, the two-door sports car that will debut in the PlayStation 3 racing game, the Gran Turismo 6 next month, on the sixth of December.
Although the Mercedes Benz AMG Gran Turismo has been designed specifically for the GT6, the supercar model is also believed to inspire the company’s SLS AMG successor, which will take the place of the soon-to-be-discontinued supercar towards the end of this decade.
In the words of Daimler AG design vice president Gorden Wagener, the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo “embodies the brand’s defining design philosophy of sensual purity in a unique way”. He further elaborated that “the design of this concept car reflects to extreme effect the perfect symbiosis between emotional, sensuous contours and intelligently presented high tech.”
The Vision GT boasts of its wide, long-slung stance, muscular wheels with big alloys wrapped in thin tires, as well as its LED-filled diamond-like grille.
Giving its virtual racers an imaginary power-to-weight, the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo comes powered with the same twin-turbocharged 430kW/800Nm 5.5-litre V8 engine from the E63 AMG and features an aluminum space-frame body, as well as the carbon-fiber components. Also, thanks to its fade-resistant AMG ceramic high-performance composite braking system, as well as its powerful sports exhaust system with eight tailpipes, the supercar has “excellent deceleration” as well. Mercedes also claims to have its two-sit cabin been inspired from the Formula One cockpit.
