Uber has partnered with Hyderabad Metro Rail and add one more extra service with the help of UberMOTO whenever the Metro service starts. CEO Travis Kalanick has launched the UberMOTO, which is a bike taxi service from Hyderabad on Tuesday, 13 December 2016.
The service will start from January 2017. A similar service is already operating under its aegis in Gurgaon. Uber had tried to start such a service in Bengaluru but had to shelve the project after the state government said that it had not obtained the required permissions before starting the services. It’s rival, the domestic Ola Taxi services, also began a similar service but it also had to close them after similar objections by the state government. However in Telangana, Uber has signed up an understanding with Hyderabad Metro Rail to extend last mile services with the help of UberMOTO.
Telangana is pushing and projecting itself as one of the most progressive states in the country. It is working closely to ensure that the best services are provided to thousands of commuters in Hyderabad. Speaking after concluding the MOU, IT and Panchayat Minister, K.T. Rama Rao said that the last mile is always a challenge for commuters and with the launching of the service, it will help to alleviate travel woes.
Uber has also kept the fares the barest minimum at Rs. 20 for the first three kilometres and Rs. 5 per kilometre after that. Uber first mooted the idea of “Bike Taxi service.” It was hailed as a revolutionary concept and will serve to add to its consumer base with its rock bottom price points and will significantly add to its cash coffers.
Uber is locking horns with its desi rival, Ola especially after it offloaded its China operations to local rival Didi Kuaidi. While Bangalore continues to be the hub for innovative logistic ideas, Hyderabad is not lagging behind, and Uber has its second largest presence in the city regarding employees.
