Škoda Auto, the Czech automobile manufacturer, has brought its keenly awaited SUV Kodiaq into the light. Alongside two other sedans like Octavia RS and Rapid Monte Carlo, Skoda has revealed the launch details of the SUV Kodiaq for the Indian marketplace on Thursday. As officially confirmed, Skoda Kodiaq SUV will hit the Indian roads in the Q4 or fourth quarter of 2017, while the Octavia RS and the Rapid Monte Carlo edition will be available in showrooms from this month. Deliveries of these two cars will start off from September this year.
From today itself, the Skoda dealerships across India will start accepting advanced booking for the Kodiaq SUV, while its deliveries are expected to go on in the last quarter of the year. Kodiaq SUV is the first seven-seater SUV of Skoda. Though the firm officially hasn’t revealed the price range of its first SUV, the expected price of the SUV possibly will range around Rs. 25-30 lakh. Introduced in Berlin last year, Skoda SUV Kodiaq is named in honor of Kodiak bear, found in Archipelago in Alaska. It is developed on the MQB platform of Volkswagen and has common keystones with Skoda’s Superb and the Octavia.
The SUV has borrowed its styling from the Skoda Vision S concept. The SUV is designed with the Skoda’s hottest crystalline design language, paired with razor-sharp stripes, crinkled metal and much layered, decorated lighting features. Regarding specifications, the new Skoda Kodiaq will be powered by both petrol and diesel engine. The 2-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine will produce 177 bhp and peak torque of 320 Nm. On the other hand, the 2-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel unit has come up with two variants – a 147 bhp and 340 Nm and a 187 bhp and 400 Nm versions.
However, it is yet unclear which version will be launched in India. Regarding the transmission options, the SUV includes a 6-speed manual gearbox alongside a 7-speed DSG unit. While Skoda was expected to reveal more about the India-spec new Skoda Kodiaq including more features and price range, but the Czech Multinational only unveiled that the SUV will officially hit the commercial automobile market of India in the coming festive season.
