Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge Android 7.0 Nougat Update Features

Galaxy S6 Android Nougat update

Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are now two years old and still running on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. I think Samsung was busy because of the upcoming flagship, Galaxy Note 8. But Now Samsung found some time to roll out Android 7.0 Nougat in some regions. The update does not come with much interface tweaks; it looks a lot more like the Android 6.0 Marshmallow version because of the TouchWiz UI layer. But there are some features which are new and different from what we had in Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

Galaxy S6/S6 Edge Android 7.0 Nougat Update Features

The new update will come with a new user interface called Samsung Experience. This is same TouchWiz UI but with a much cleaner look than Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The notification shade and quick settings will be much cleaner. Also, the quick toggles can be accessed by swiping down again on notification shade.

The best and the most exciting feature in Android 7.0 Nougat is the Split-screen mode, but Samsung Galaxy S6 users don’t worry about this feature. Because Samsung Galaxy S6 comes with multi window mode built-in. There are more features in Samsung’s multiwindow mode than the Android Split Screen feature; you can even use apps in floating mode and minimize them as a floating bubble on the screen.

Quick Switch app will come in handy to switch two recent apps quickly without getting into the recent apps page. You just have to double tap the recent apps button to jump to the previously opened app (if it is still in the recent apps screen).

Notification bundling is another great feature which gives the notification panel a cleaner look and organizes the notification according to the apps.

Doze Mode on the Go feature will optimize the battery performance and provide you a better battery backup than on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

If you like to chat a lot with friends and emoji are your substitute for a whole sentence then you’ll get more emojis to play with in Android 7.0 Nougat.

The Settings menu got an overhaul in Android 7.0 Nougat update for Galaxy S6. All the settings are now categorized you won’t have to wonder about different settings.

How to get Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge Android Nougat Update

As I told you before that this update is still not available globally, Samsung only pushed this update in Europe and India. So, if you are currently in these countries then follow these steps to update your Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge to Android 7.0 Nougat.

  1. Connect your Galaxy S6 to a Wi-Fi network; mobile data won’t work for OTA updates.
  2. Now unlock your smartphone and go to Settings > About > System Updates and tap “Check for Updates.”
  3. You will see a new update is ready to download and install; the update will be more than a GB, so it will take some time to download.
  4. Once downloaded, your smartphone will reboot and you will see the update process going on. Do not poke your smartphone till the update is complete.

Conclusion

If your smartphone is rooted then make sure you unroot it first, or you won’t be able to see this update on your Galaxy S6. All your files, data, contacts and messages will be in the same place same before.
