Oppo joins Make in India program, investing 100 crores to setup manufacturing base

In a recently organized launch event of Oppo F1 and F1 Plus smartphones, Sky Li, the President of Oppo Indian and Global VPhas revealed the company’s plan of investing Rs. 100 crore to start their manufacturing unit by August in India. He also said that the company has already begun mobile handset production in the country at Foxconn’s plant and expects to increase the volume of business significantly.

So far, around 40 million handsets have been sold in China, and the company plans similar business growth in India. Li further added that Oppo has plans of producing around 10 million handsets every year in India at their own plant. However, the company would continue its relationship with Foxconn too.

Currently, the company is focusing on the launch of its ‘Camera phones’ F1 and F1 Plus in India, both of which feature best-in-class camera sensors.

Oppo F1 sports an 8-megapixel front camera with ¼ inch sensor, wide aperture lens and ‘screen flash’ and a 13-megapixel back camera with single LED flash and f/2.2 aperture lens. Other features of the handset include 3 GB RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 octa-core processor, 2500mAh battery, 16GB expandable memory, full metal body and dual-SIM slots.

The company claimed that Oppo F1 Plus features a sophisticated camera although its other specifications were not announced officially. It is expected to launch in April and would come with a price tag of Rs. 26,990.

Some known specifications of this handset include Snapdragon 616 processor, full metal body, 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 32 GB expandable storage, 4 GB RAM and 5.5 inch HD display.
