Microsoft is expected to release Surface Book 2 either in late 2016 or early 2017. According to rumors, the upcoming Surface Book 2 will be powered by an Intel Kaby Lake processor, which can provide enhanced performance by consuming low power.
Surface Book 2 Display and Specs
Even though the display will be same as the currently available model, which is 13.5-inch, the display will offer a 4K resolution with 3840×2160 pixels. The integration of high resolution is made possible since the new Kaby Lake processor will have improved graphics architecture capable of playing 4K videos and 3D graphics easily.
The upcoming Surface Book 2 will be designed in such a way that users can easily detach the display from the keyboard by pressing and holding a key until the hinge detach itself from the keyboard.
This functionality will be extremely useful since users need not have to apply force to remove the display, like with the currently available Surface Book. Hence, you can expect a functional hinge that allows the keyboard to be removed irrespective of whether the device is powered on or off.
Surface Book 2 will have better battery
According to sources, the new Surface Book 2 will ship with an enhanced battery, which will deliver a backup of over 8 hours. Moreover, the integrated battery will provide support for recharging the Surface Pen as well.
Recently, a patent application filed by Microsoft surfaced on the web, which revealed that the stylus will be equipped with a built-in rechargeable battery and will have a LED indicator and a power button.
On the camera front, the Surface Bok 2 will feature an 8-megapixel front camera to enable you to perform Skype conversations and video-based screen casting.
Surface Book 2 will sport Nvidia GeForce GTX 980, Connectivity options
With a dedicated Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 980 graphic card, the new Surface Book 2 will be designed with an Intel Realsense camera, two new USB 3.0 ports, a mini DisplayPort, HDMI 1.3 port, USB 3.1 Type-C port, Thunderbolt 3 and an SD card reader.
Even though Surface Book 2 will be loaded with Window 10 Anniversary update, it is highly unlikely that the device will be equipped with Window 10 Redstone since Microsoft will not release it until early 2017. This is because Microsoft is planning to align Redstone with the latest hardware devices including the long-awaited Surface Phone.
Surface Book 2 will come with Windows 10 Anniversary update
If Microsoft manages to release Redstone by March, then you can expect the launch of Surface Book 2 and Surface Book simultaneously.
As per reports coming in, the new Surface Book 2 will be thinner than the previous counterpart and will most likely bear a full metal unibody. The included backlit keyboard will consist of swappable LEDs, which means you will be able to modify the color of display light easily.
The touchpad will be highly sensitive with gesture support, and the fingerprint scanner will be located on the top right-hand side. Pricing wise, the Surface Book 2 will start from $1,400 for the baseline version and go all the way up to $2,700 for the premium installment.
