LeEco has announced a new mid-ranged smartphone Le Max 2 with 6GB RAM, and it was followed by OnePlus 3. Gone are the days when having eight or ten-core processors in PCs was a massive thing. But now, having strong processors in smartphones is just another thing. Eight gigs of RAM in a phone is set to soon become a reality. It has been rumored that LeEco has been working on a flagship device with 8GB of RAM.
According to GizChina, this device will be powered by Snapdragon 821/823 processor. This comes despite the fact that the current Snapdragon 820 is compatible with high RAM units. Not only this, it is speculated that the feature a 25MP camera, a fingerprint scanner and is likely to cost around Rs. 31,000.
It all started last year when Asus launched the Zenfone 2 with the then staggering 4GB RAM, and since then the market has seen RAM increase across all Chinese smartphones. This year Vivo, ZUK, and OnePlus now all have 6GB RAM phones.
The technology is developing very fast and the future belongs to virtual reality. Android will launch with its Android N this year, and Samsung and Apple are working on futuristic smartphone technology that will make smartphones bends (Samsung) and wrap-around-display (Apple) with OLED panels. In such cases, apps and games will need massive RAM. It is possible companies like LeEco and OnePlus have been able to visualize the demand of such futuristic devices sooner than expected and are fast getting equipped for it. Enjoying full versions of games on smartphones at sizes as big as they are on consoles might not be a futuristic thing, anymore.
Upgrading the hardware of a smartphone fulfills the purpose of having a device that can sustain at least a few advancements in the software area, thus making it a long-lasting device.
