Since its first ever demo way back in 2013 at the CES, rumor mills have been abuzz about the launch of its foldable display phone. A recent report from Bloomberg suggested that the phone will be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress 2017, Barcelona at a price tag of $650.
It is believed that the South Korean company has two such models at hand. One of them has a 5-inch display that can be unfurled into an 8-inch tablet sized screen. Codenamed ‘Project Valley’, these phones were doing the media rounds, even in the last year.
Screen technology could be the next battleground for Samsung’s Galaxy series of phones and the Apple iPhone, which is also rumored to have OLED screens in the future. This will surely escalate the battle between the giants.
The Galaxy X smartphone is said to bear the model number SM-G929F and may be released in the UK, Italy, Germany, Poland, Nordic countries, France, Ireland and South Korea. The US market is missing from the Galaxy X’s market list.
Not only will the phone have a foldable screen, but also a 4K display. It is said to come with Android N and next-gen Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 processor, a microSD card slot, a camera module and it will be water resistant (interesting, given that the module is foldable).
The AMOLED screen is said to weigh 5 grams and features a depth of 0.3 millimeters, with a radius of 10 mm. This means that this new display can be rolled into a circle with a radius of 10 millimeters.
It has been three years, and this idea still keeps gaining more and more attention from the mass. The company is also working on a hologram technology that can project 3D images and reflective display that could work as a mirror.
